Say what you will about the confluence of PG&E and flawed generator management at Live365 causing net outages, nothing beats Comcast for intermittent internet with no discernable pattern. Comcastic.

Indeed. In the last several months I've noted a rise in semi-regular, instant dis/re-connects. Was only mildly annoying when the worst was my IM connection bouncing up and down, but became a real problem when I tried to work from home over VPN last week.
Personally, I suspect this is some kind of automated clipping of the connection to keep people from using high-bandwidth persistent connections.

Huh. I haven't seen anything that'd seem to correlate it to usage here, but I haven't seen a pattern at all yet, so who knows.
It could be about just persistent connections, not just high volume ones, because I do keep a couple of generally low traffic persistent connections running.
