Report from a landscape photography exhibit

We went to the opening of the Adams Gallery exhibit of contemporary landscape photographers at Mumm this weekend. Oddly, while both Catherine and I agreed that the selection of photographers seemed better than last year, we didn't see any prints that we just had to get (Glenn didn't bring the one Christopher Burkett print that I really had my eye on).

But there is a new book of Burkett's work out, and even if it doesn't capture the full glory of his IlfoChromes $65 for a bunch of his pictures is much cheaper than buying one print.

And I talked with Charles Cramer about his new prints, I've got one of his older dye transfer prints, but he'd gone digital and I didn't like what the artifacts did to his work. This year there was one picture of his in which I saw the problems that bug me. Turns out that there's a lab in Santa Clara, Calypso Imaging , with a LightJet that does much better work than the EverColor . The first digital prints I've seen that I'd consider paying as much for as an optical print. It's here.

If you have a chance I'd strongly recommend getting up to the Mumm vineyards to see the exhibit. Good stuff. And if you're in Yosemite or Carmel or another place where there's a gallery that sells Burkett's work, ask about seeing the two heather garden prints in person.
