I recently said "40 years after the play and it's still a political statement", but perhaps it's time to come to grips and say that "I do not want what I haven't got" (sorry, Sinead). So, as much as I want to believe:
Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short
it seems like it's a week to be open to new possibilities and trying out different things. Or maybe...
Don't be afraid, I'm part
of the family.

Nice do!
I've never gone to the skin, but after I started shaving my head, I realized that it was pretty much the in style, especially for young bohemians:
Plus, I found rather invigorating to be able to loofah my scalp!

Yeah, the desire to just sit here and massage my scalp all day is overwhelming. It's a completely new experience.
It's also weird in the way that my head feels differentially chilly. The top is fine, but I haven't had much up there for years. The back feels consistently cold, which is great when it's warm, but will be a bother if I haven't gotten used to it when the weather turns.

Welcome to the club! Totally with you on the scalp rubbing thing; it just never gets old.

Holy sweet jebus...and yeah, you know...it looks good, Dan. A little less wild and terrifying, but only slightly...

Oh yeah... HATS! Make sure you always carry a hat with you. I have a good sun/rain hat that I use for hiking. I also have a "toque" with a chin-strap that I wear at night when I camp in the winter. Most hats slide off my head too easily as I roll around in the sleeping bag.

Eric: I already always carry a hat, because I've been thin up there for a while (recently it's been a CHUGALUG hat), and I've had a few great wool felt hats that I keep losing and need to pick up a few more of for the winter, along with something summery.
Speaking of hats... went to put on my helmet for my mid-day bike ride... that was different.
Dylan: Whoah! Good to hear from ya!

As an old punk, and therefore frequent maker-of-drastic-changes-in-haircut, I know exactly what you mean about the helmet.

What I want to know who is that and what have you done with Dan?
I have pictures of his truely from 1988 which I will find and put up at some point.

Welcome to the club. It looks good on you.
Just wait until you realize:
- the conservative right people look at you and thinks: "Cool, he's one of is."
- the freaky people look at you and think: Dude! :)
- the women look at you and think: neat. phallic. sexy!

Meuon, on that last point, I haven't worn turtlenecks since the early '80s...

Yo, Dan, trim that beard and 'stache up some, work on your scowl, and start going to Church!

Hmm. Now that's different.
As for the "cold weather" feeling, I suspect it'll fade pretty quickly. But in winter (or summer in SF, which is
more or less the same thing), you may need a scarf to keep the back of your neck warm.

It's time like this that I ask myself. What would Jesus do? I suspect he would turn some water into wine and hang out with his old friend. Not being a tightwad, I'll spring for a few rounds of beer. I think I need to see this in person to verfy this isn't some photoshoppery
