Argh. I've got two MediaWiki installs, and in both I'm getting some amazingly persistent spammers. Apparently they no longer care that all external links are rel="nofollow"
ed, and they're not smart enough to make small edits, they're doing massive linkdumps that can't possibly be missed.
If we're spending over a billion bucks a week on the Iraq war, why can't we be allocating a couple of tens of millions of bucks to make sure that the promulgators of this sort of terrorism get quietly "disappeared" to a prison in Bulgaria or Syria or something? I want them locked up in some place with "interrogators" that can keep them alive for years. If you know what I mean.

Have you thought of adding a reverse captcha to the Wiki?

The spammers have gotten around Google's filters. Google's taking a kickback. Employees at Google are taking a kickback (or are otherwise “influenced”). Or a combination of all three.

I get probably 500 pieces of SPAM in my Google Spam box every day. About once a week something gets through to my inbox. So either Nancy is on better spam lists or Google likes me.
BTW, ALL of my email addresses now forward into my GMail account - including those registered as "contact" on my domains. I also never obfuscate my email address anywhere on the web.

Re: reverse captchas: I think that these might actually be real humans. If not, it's a set of robots that are not only MediaWiki aware, but will reuse accounts if they're not blocked.
