Following up on a conversation from yesterday: The Last Psychiatrist: How To Take Ritalin Correctly (also applies to amphetamines):
Let's conceptualize how these drugs work. Imagine getting a brain scan while you are performing a task. The parts of your brain you are using for the task will light up, brighter than those you aren't using.
Now you drink coffee (1). The whole brain lights up brighter, proportionally.
Now you take amphetamines. The parts of your brain that you are using light up brighter, but the parts you aren't using go darker. Get it? Caffeine is a global brain stimulant, while amphetamines focus your attention, reducing distraction.

Wonderful!
In college, we used to take "Black Beauties" - which were prescription grade amphetamines. Get up at 4, pop one, fall asleep, pop up wide awake 30 minutes later, study until 8, take the exam and hope you did not crash before the exam was over.
It was so good it's illegal of course, now.
Today they give Ritalin to children! ritalin as I understand is a class A methaphetamine. what genius thought that up.
They require the child to take it, then at 18, prohibit him from taking it, and if he finds it on his own, put in him jail for being a druggie.
At least that's how I see it. It should be the other way around, no drugs while young, then his choice as an adult what he decides to do.
