Two observations on Apple's launchd:
- There is no idea so good that XML can't make look stupid and completely
incomprehensible. I understand why they did it, but ... still ...
- Where the *&^%$#@ is Apache getting started from, and how the @#$%^& am I
supposed to track down these weirdnesses on Tomcat?
Okay, one on remote desktops: X11 may suck, but all of the other extant technologies for remote desktops suck more. Why aren't people using X11 in the manner it was intended? (Via and more). Yes, it's slow, and it sucks, but it sucks a lot less than VNC. And don't get me started about flashy animation and transparent window effects with VNC...

launchd's implementation in Tiger is pretty half baked (don't want to say how much time I wasted on user-
level agents. So much promise...) Supposedly it's lots better in the next big Cat.
Apache uses the old(er)-school StartupItems - look in /System/Library/StartupItems/Apache

more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
