Rules of the internet stared from a place called 4chan(dot)org, their /b/ board is where people are given the ability to randomly post any image or thought that pops into their heads. It's a rather disturbing place at time, but it seems most internet memes seem to get their start there.

For anyone who's interested in all the rules... oddly relevant to the conversation is rule 39 though.

Thanks! I knew Rule 34 came from 4Chan, but because there are things that, once seen, cannot be un-seen, I've never actually wanted to go tracking down 4Chan or any other things that may become memes.

There are things man was not meant to know and, alas, I already know too many of them.

4chan isn't a place for the faint of heart. It's mostly populated by early teen kids posting racist and misogynistic pictures and text, I've seen child pornography on there in the past, and quite a bit of gore (along the lines of ogrish or rotten(dot)com) and I usually shy away from it.

On rare occasion, I pop back in to see if it's improved, it hasn't, and I leave again... but I used to hang out there a bit in 2003 to 2004 before it really started a big decline. The original intent was an imageboard for anime related discussions, since I was into The Big O at the time, it was a nice place to hang out. Since the new crowd has moved in though, it's become a cesspool of society.
