Don't worry, I'm sure that those cracker jack people that brought you Homeland Security will do a great job with your banking and mortgage needs.

The behavior of Homeland Security can at least theoretically be reviewed by the courts and Congress, but the legislation for the "Bailout" explicitly states that it can not be so reviewed. I wonder what it is like to have control of $700 billion for which one has absolutely no accountability.

The debt limit is going to be raised to to over 11 trillion, which means that Bush43 will have more than doubled the national debt before (if) he leaves office.

This Interesting Analysis of US Debt and Presidents leaves me missing Bill Clinton. My summary: Bill Clinton was too busy getting fucked to fuck us. Wish Bush had a good mistress (or wife) to keep him mellow. It's all the built up testosterone in the whole friggin repressed conservative fundamental "republican" party. I had recently watched a really neat history of the Roman empire as well as a couple of others on the Discover Channel.. Essentially, the empire spent itself to death trying to prove it was still a great empire.

How bad is it? A black presidential candidate with a Muslim-ish name is a serious contender for President of the United States of America.

Wait, explain please how that equates to "bad"? (Viz: "How bad is it?")

And now it seems that lobbyists have convinced the powers that be to include foreign banks in the welfare package. Barclays is one of the banks specifically mentioned. One can only assume that this provides them with the capital to complete their purchase of choicer bits of Lehmans.
