As I write this, McCain is giving his concession speech. Barack Obama is the new President-elect of the United States.
Now hoping for "No" on California Prop 4 and 8.
Addendum: Still hoping beyond hope on 8. Wanting to rip into Obama for various things, but my @DEITIES, that guy can talk. As much as certain policy stances scare the hell out of me, I think the country needs a JFK or a Reagan, and Obama can speak. I'd forgotten what it meant to sound Presidential, after 8 years of a mumbling idiot, we've got an orator.

He does make you want to believe, and now he IS (or at least will be soon), our President. He deserves the benefit of the doubt for a while, and our support. I feel one of the primary roles of President is to communicate, and he can communicate like few have. We need that talent, and that image of a strong intelligent leader if this country is to pull together and through the next few years.
There is a lot of power in belief, in hope. As I watched his speech last night, he made me proud that such a man will be President, and to be an American.
I have hope, I want to believe. That is the power of an orator.

I'm giddy with delight over a president that can pronounce "nuclear" correctly.

Crap. San Francisco's Prop K looks like it failed, but Sonoma did get Measure Q (passenger rail from Larkspur to Cloverdail), and Petaluma's Measure K, the "drive Petaluma in to bankruptcy" initiative, got shot down.
Courtesy of Eric Wagoner, this should be county-specific returns for Prop 8, but it's still loading. Bill Humphries passed along this argument that Prop 8 will be declared unconstitutional. We can hope.

Oh, and now we can start asking the questions: Marty Klein has a list of things he'd like Obama to do, I think he's reaching further than is possible.
I'd just like some answers on things like Obama's support of FISA, "Fair Trade", "Card Check", and this "Civilian Security Force" WTF.

I must say I voted for Obama for the sake of some change (hopefully good) and he does make you feel comfortable. As a die-hard libertarian I did vote for the party on all elections...but as someone who remmebers the Republican Bob Barr...i just could not vote for him as a "libertarian"...didn't believe it. I don't expect miracles in the next 4 years...but nice to hear someone speak pretty.

The MeFi thread on the success of Prop 8 and the failure of civil rights clearly demonstrates the willingness of people to project their own hopes on to candidates.

Think Peace Corps. He's talking about a corps of civilians going around spreading goodwill in order to make people like us and increase our security.

No, that's the "Young Republicans" and many Missionary Organizations.
I just hope when he says "Volunteers" he means he's not paying them with tax dollars.

Interesting election map with population density taken into account.
