It would be interesting to hear Charlene's take on the situation. Especially in regards to the Chronicle's terminology: "home for mentally ill people" and the implication that these people were inherently dangerous.
The guy waved a knife at cops. There was no way a knife was going to harm a child across the street. But the cops fired guns at the guy. A stray bullet could easily have harmed a child.
Maybe they should ban cops from near schools!

Yeah, it's unclear to me what the nature of the home was, I assume developmentally disabilities, which doesn't mesh with the Chron's reporting, but it could also be some sort of half-way/rehab house.
I'm gonna give the cops the benefit of the doubt on this one. And once the physical harm issue was resolved, the concern at the school was about a bunch of TV reporters running wild on K-5 kids.
