Using an off-the-shelf Chumby One with no software mods to create a WiFi to 3g access point.

It still needs the modem, so altogether it looks like only $30 or $40 less than the MiFi with the CostCo special, a lot closer at list price.

Sounds like a cheaper, more flexible version of the MiFi.

BTW, this place rents MiFis. Something I'll have to keep in mind for unconferences...

I think I know WHY that hack exists in the Chumby's.

Chumby's make great in-home displays for all kinds of things beyond what Chumby sells them publically for,
