Virginia's state seal is indecent? - First, it supposedly shows the roman goddess Virtue. a women. It is an androgonous looking goddess... but it's a poor representation anyway. But what has me laughing is the A.G. is trying to cover it up.
What should matter is:
- If she's a goddess, she should look like one: That breast (and entire image) should make babies and grown men cry. It should inspire.
- Wait a minute, why are we iconizing a non-christian deity. Heck, does anyone still worship the ancient roman dieties?
- What about the phallic strap-on looking "sword" in her arm, I think it's illegal in Alabama and maybe Texas too.
- The guy on the ground is wearing a dress, does that make it a queen's crown?
Or maybe: We should accept it as an image from a proud past whose ideals who should aspire to. As is.

ebradway: "Virtus' breast only excites the Republicans" Are you implying that
Virtus was a Lesbian given to bondage??
Does nobody recall that John AssAshcroft similarly had the naked
breast of Justice covered in the DoJ Lobby 9 years ago?

I think using "as ideals we should aspire to" as qualification of which portions of that proud past to carry forward is enough.

The Confederate Flag? - Lots of issues there and history rewrittten, flags painted in pictures where the flag could not have been. Most of the confederate buffs recognize the "Bonnie Blue" flag..

Does that mean we should keep the Confederate Flag flying over South Carolina? How
about keeping Chief Nocahoma as the Atlanta Braves mascot?
I guess the difference is my two examples belittle the oppressed. Virtus' breast
only excites the Republicans. You know how oppressed fat rich white guys are in
our society.
BTW, it looks like there once was an official version of Virtus with both breasts
