When I first heard about the EU, I thought to myself, "they're eliminating tariffs between European nations? Wow, that's going to form an economic powerhouse, they're going to rival the US."
Then, "they're creating a combined currency? Wow! Uh, wait, this is going to be a fiat currency? Printed in multiple countries?"
Then, "they've created a central governing body, and are regulating the hell out of everything? Durp."
