TriMet has abandoned the project. Apparently it triggered when changing lanes, and was delivered too late to be useful during actual turns.
They never got around to evaluating whether alerting pedestrians that they were being run over was, perhaps, a less useful thing than simply not running them over in the first place.
(Note: If they're serious, how about a side-looking radar that could alert the driver to obstacles in the blind spot?)
