Giggle.

Yeah, everyone has one piece of the puzzle. Friedman's lacked the sockets I needed and a few other parts. Home Depot didn't have the right ground rod clamps. Very annoying.

And I made a trip back to Friendman's to exchange the schedule 40 PVC conduit for schedule 80. Looks like it's an inspector's judgement call about sched 40 PVC above ground, it can be disallowed if it's in a place susceptible to damage. Depending on the inspector that can be anything above 18" below grade. This way it's code. Period.

Sometimes the commercial only places are better choices. Graybar and Grainger for starts, but I love the &quotcontractor only" places with a reasonably helful counter man. They tend to stock the standard parts for real projects like this and often when I have bought a &quotY" they mention: Do you need the &quotX" and &quotZ" for that as well.

Gotta tell a story: About a year ago I needed a fan motor for an HVAC unit.. The exact part I needed was $240 and special order (week+). He looks at me and says: It's 4:30 and we all need a beer. I walked back in 10 minutes before closing (5) with a 6 pack. He pops a beer, hands me a generic replacement motor and says things like: You have to cut this shaft to length, that's obvious. I can't tell you that: swapping the red and green wires might change the direction of rotation, I can't tell you: you have to use this starter capacitor... (hands me a small box).. ( a few more things..), and because you don't exist, the cashier only takes cash. It was around $75 total, + beer. Priceless.

Dan - what's that shiny, reflective stuff lining the bottom of your trench?

reflection of water?

Why would you put water in the bottom of the trench? I'm just kidding... Trying to make a joke about how dry it is in Colorado.
