RT @Columbine:
Did you ever notice that all inspirational nose-to-the-grindstone quotes about creativity are from people who have already made it?
...:
You don't hear any writers or artists who are still stuck in the creative gutter giving little inspirational asshole pep talks ...

On that "do what you love and the money will follow" thing? That only happens if you or someone with an economic interest in you comes up with a way to market what you love.
And it still may take years of "paying your dues" before you start seeing even a modest income from your labor of love.

It struck a chord with me because I was presented with some local community shindig in which there were assorted "life coach"es who didn't seem to be doing all that well with their own lives, and I realized that we have a distinct lack of scientific data on "do what you love and the money will follow", and the correlation isn't all that clear.

I feel I must add the disclaimer that I was having a rage fit, of the kind that often happens when I contemplate my creative output, and once I calmed down and could think rationally again, I realized I was being unfair to the person who was the source of the original quote that set me off (Ira Glass).
