I actually get some work/business value out of LinkedIn because it is where the biz-dev, sales and some technical people in the work world put up a facade that is appropriate to the work world, and I get to see that the guy I'm in a conference with tomorrow has a relevant past, or works with a competitor.. I've helped people get jobs via LinkedIn and maybe someday I'll need the same. We can see people we are working with "checking us out" and we do the same.
That value may erode quickly.
