Sweet. For less than $150 USD, That's a useful device. With some "store and forward" or "mesh" networking in that Raspberry Pi, you could cover some territory.

See my recent post about bringing back NNTP and UUCP for privacy reasons. With a bunch of these, TLS and UUCP you could create a darknet with no connection to any existing communication infrastructure.

I'm thinking I could set one of these on a water tower and send back information like level and line pressure back to a pumping station for a lot less money than what is being used now. It could also be used for monitoring of transfer pumps for waste water or any pipeline application.
