Yeah, I suspect there's a middle-ground, and that maybe Quinn's message could be couched in terms that could be heard. Spent a bit of the drive in thinking about that, thinking about how to phrase the "we consumers really don't care which tribe of despotic slimeballs in the Middle East our oil comes from", or that inciting dissidents to violence does indeed introduce violence that otherwise might not have been inherent to a movement, or that the Mafia really did achieve early successes in the United States because they were seen as protecting Italian neighborhoods from Irish cops.
But I also suspect that to the "law and order" folks who tend to rise up the ranks in the intelligence services these arguments couldn't be heard.
