Dear Roku

Dear Roku: you have my email address because I just bought your product. Why would I want to see a sale on more? #targetedmarketingfail

Amazon seems to be doing that lately, too. "Based on your browsing history" promotions (though not emails or ads), that are for things I just bought. Uh, no thanks. I already have one.

Ugh, yes: And even when I look at something and then buy from another vendor, make the cut-off on that about a week, no? Don't need to be looking at those same ads for months...

Oh the other hand, putting something in your cart, and then NOT buying it seems to result in a price- drop often enough that I now try that trick with just about everything that costs more than a case of beer. Unfortunately, that also results in even more ads for the "abandoned" item, even after you eventually buy it.

Oooh! Good to know! I'll have to experiment with this. Just bought a WiFi extension + parabolic antenna for Charlene's parents' house to mooch off their neighbors (with consent), and could have waited a bit to see what happened with that...

If you're going to experiment with that, also try putting it in your cart at a non-Amazon store. I've gotten discounts near 20% at Amazon after doing that. The all-seeing-eye never sleeps.
