Sidewalk Vending

Interesting to see so many of my libertarian friends elated by this: Sidewalk vending is decriminalized across California. Allowing vendors to impede pedestrian traffic while not paying rent seems like a large externality.

Well, since you’re not supposed to drive on the sidewalk anyhow, might as well let vendors use it, right? :-/

There are probably rules in effect to keep the sidewalks from being completely closed off. Also, the one who controls what sidewalk vendors are allowed at a location should be the property owner.

I'd be more okay with this if it included the right of sidewalk vendors to use parking spaces.

But, yeah: It'll be interesting to see how this falls out in practice.
