Griling Cats

What's most amazing about this story isn't that someone posted something horribly racist on a local Facebook group, I mean, that's what Nextdoor and local Facebook groups *do*. It's the layers of racism that led this to be amplified to the national level. I'm kind of fringe in how much I believe racism permeates the world around me, indeed, even in my own beliefs which I try to examine and adjust, but... Dayumn.

Vance kept up false claims about Haitian migrants after aide was told they were baseless

ABC News spoke with Kilgore, who lives near downtown Springfield, on Wednesday afternoon. Kilgore said her cat Missy Sassy went missing and they believed their Haitian neighbors were to blame for the disappearance. After filing the police report, Kilgore's cat returned home safely several days later.

She told ABC News that she apologized to her Haitian neighbors who have lived next door for the past year, and they were very gracious and there seemed to be no hard feelings.

At this point both ABC and WSJ have talked to the initial complainant. I'm gonna believe them over random Twitter trolls.

And Vance has admitted the story is bullshit.

The other observation, from a number of sources, is: if we have a group of legal immigrants in this country so poor that they're turning to neighborhood cats, which are definitely not a healthy source of meat, we should help them eat.

This whole thing is just racist xenophobia from some of the worst people.

TIL "Haitian" is a race.

That's kind of a leap... The meme builds on existing racism to spread.
