Strip Clubs

On my way back from Knoxville last night I stopped at The Katch - a strip club just outside of Knoxville. Like most small city strip clubs in the Southeast, it was populated by lots of truckers and too much poorly implanted silicone. But I still enjoyed myself as long as I considered it a performance art as well as a decadent pleasure (indicative of the fall of the American empire, I'm sure). Some things I had not noticed before: Always be the first patron to tip the girl on the dance stage. They really appreciate it because it breaks the ice for the other 'gentlemen' to tip and she'll put on a much better show since she still has most of her clothes on and can actually strip for you. Also, try to pick out two girls who are likely lovers and pay them both for table dances at the same time. Following these two rules made me feel less like a sexually depraved urchin and more like a connoiseur of an art.

I've got a female friend who wants to go to a strip club, and since I'm not a regular at such places I just this week asked on the SHS mailing list for good bay area locations and etiquette. In her response, one stripper suggested sitting in a booth away from the stage and tipping. Sets you apart from both the "up against the stage" crowd and the cheapskates who sit back.
(And what's the matter with being a sexually depraved urchin, huh?)

That would depend on the layout of the club. The small clubs, like The Katch lack booths where it's possible to tip. I also learned something new last night - not one of the girls asked me if I wanted a table dance or company and I began to wonder if I forgot my deodorant. Of course, compared to the rest of the crowd there - I doubt they'd notice. When I finally decided to ask one of the girls she pointed to the towel on the seat next to me and asked if someone was sitting there. Evidently, the girls put towels down on the seats to avoid 'vinyl sticky buns' and everyone assumed the towel marked where another girl was sitting. The lesson, be sure to remove towels from seats around you!
Probably the biggest rule of strip club etiquette is 'don't be cheap'. I blew about $100 over two hours last night but the girls were all quite appreciative. But I can blow $100 in two hours at a sushi bar (no comments about things that smell like raw fish...).

Indeed.
When you compare it to tix for two to Kenny Rogers ($130 for the tickets, $40 for dinner, $5 for parking)... and you still might not end up happy...
As long as you're on the proper page of the hymnal going in, I see no problem with it.
