Scientology again

2001-02-12 20:43:39+01 by Dan Lyke 3 comments

I've mentioned The Road To Xenu here before, good reading for anyone interested in cults like Scientology[Wiki](and I'm a little concerned about a friend of mine who's involved with a certain Yoga[Wiki] sect, but that's her call...), but here's yet another tale of a Scientology defector trying to extricate herself

They made somebody sign a billion year contract?! Scientology just makes me howl.

By the way, the movie was somewhat overlooked, but I highly recommend the $cientology parody buried inside Steve Martin's Bowfinger. It's just a subplot, but the mere image of all these serious, suit-clad people walking around wearing ... well, I'll save it for you to discover.

BTW: shouldn't that be Xemu?

Dunno. The book is called The Road To Xenu, perhaps either the dissenters changed it for trademark reasons. However, since I read the book years ago but hadn't heard of Xemu 'til you mentioned it now (and I did a web search), perhaps the Scientologists decided changing history was a way to distance themselves from existing critical writings.
