One of the things I enjoyed about Boston is the prevelance of Dunkin Donut shops (as Heidi said - "they even have one in the subway!"). I've been stuck in the Southeast most of my life now and have been forced to eat only Krispy Kreme as Dunkin Donut shops are rather scarce. Today I saw this article on the Boston Globe sight. UGH!

You mean Dunkin's better than Krispy? Whaddaya know. Donuts are one of those "moment on the lips/lifetime on the hips" items for me, but I do haul the kids down the street when we have a coupon for buy 1/2\free 1/2 donuts. And their new television ads have been pretty funny, too -- Like the Christmas carolers who start out singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas" but end up singing with their mouths stuffed full of donuts and coffee. As Homer would "Donuts! Is there anything they can't do?"

Krispy Kreme are the latest fad out here too, although I haven't partaken since leaving the south, there are other pastries I prefer.
Just a question that I need to resolve, though: How did this entry end up in the Sexual Culture classification? Obviously I need to work on that bit of the code...

I ended up here because a good donut is . . . uh, well a good donut. ;-)
The Krispy Kreme's are the better donut.

My problem with Krispy Kreme's is that they pretty much make only one kind of donut. I will admit that their glazed donut is better than Dunkin Donut's but KK completely lacks the other few dozen varieties that DD has on the shelf.
Viva la difference
And yes, I chose 'Sexual Culture' as the related like. Are donuts not an importnat part of your Sexual Culture?

But if you have some KK glazed...you don't need any other kind of donut. While in Dallas we LONGED for KK's and when flying out of Chattanoogfa we would stop by and take some with us. They finnally expanded there 6 months before we left. I was also in NYC when the KK had just opened there...LINE AROUND THE BLOCK! I do like an occasional cake donut (and yes, KK's suck on that level)...but the glazed, with all that lard and sugar....uuuuuhhhhhhhhh...Gotta go...there's one down the stree from the office...
As for Sexual use...go cake donut...less to clean up...

Speaking as a lifetime Louisianian who has for the past sevenyearsandcounting been a Bostonian: I didn't realize what I had until I left it behind. Yes, KK only does one kind of doughnut well, and they're really only good when they're hot (hence the flashing "Hot Doughnuts" sign), but there really is no substitute for that doughnut when you crave it. For the past four or five years, every time I've gone to Manhattan for a visit, one required stop has been a subway ride down to Chelsea to get Krispy Kreme on the last morning of my stay. Needless to say, I have been tracking the news of their advance on Boston closely.
Would I want to go to them all the time? Of course not! But, you know, DD makes lousy doughnuts and it's nice to see someone challenge their hegemony. Doughnut diversity!
