"Tax Relief"

I'm officially pissed off (again): On Friday, I got my GW Bush campaign notification of tax relief letter. On Saturday I got my check. Remember that scandal where House and Senate staffers were using the Congressional post office for mailing campaign flyers? How is using the IRS any better? Impeach the bastard for misuse of public funds.

I'm not going into the Bush Tax Scam business because I've got very mixed emotions about that, but I am curious whether your notification letter got forwarded from another address or something, Dan. That should have reached you somewhere from a month to two months before the actual check. Or at least, that's the way it worked for me and for everyone I've talked to about it.
I will be happy to admit, by the by, that I put my "refund" right back in the bank to spend. Call me what you will. Debby's trying to find a suitably anti-Bush political group to donate hers to.

Nope. I've lived (and filed tax returns from) my current address since January of 1996. There was no forwarding label or any other indication on the envelope. I didn't actually expect a prefund since I've generally been under with-held for the past few years. I'm wondering how it worked for Dori, since she was complaining about not getting her letter either.
Thanks for the reminder, I think the CBLDF and the ACLU, and probably the EFF could all use a little more help. I'd buy drugs with it to help the suffering South American farmers, but my preferences run more to domestic products, so that'd just help the local economy. Not that that's a bad thing.

I intended to give it to the Green Party but unfortunately mine was donated to my Porsche mechanic...

I used it to payoff a credit card. What was left over I spent on a dinner and night on the town with my wife.

I got my letter two weeks ago, and the check last week.
Back when the hoohah started and it sounded like I was going to be
getting my check at any moment, I pre-donated to a couple of good causes. I've still got some left over,
though, so I'm looking for additional deserving recipients.
So, pass on the info about those poor, suffering South American farmers,
por favor (although Tom is more worried about the sad state of Humboldt
County farmers).

I'm feeling really nervous about a lot of things, so even though it doesn't fit nicely in my cash flow right now, today I'm gonna do $250 to the ACLU, $250 to the EFF, and something reasonable to The Nature Conservancy and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, but revamping those second ones to allow for some money to RAWA in light of the U.S.'s ridiculous attempts at foreign policy is probably worthwhile.
