While we're confusing locales, a Chicago detective plead guilty to participating in a jewelry theft ring. Maybe he thought he was part of the LAPD?

this story is even stranger. Remember a Michael Mann produced show from the 80s called Crime Story, with Dennis Farina as a relentless Chicago Cop from the 60s? The recently guilty chief of Detectives was the model for Farina's character. Farina, by the way, is a former Chicago cop. The main villian from the show was supposed to be Anthony Spilotro, who was one of the subjects of Scorcese's movie Casino. He ended up in a shallow grave in a cornfield in Indiana.
the Chicago detective, Hanhart, was apparently a Mob mole in the CPD who spent 10 years systematically destroying the detective division. For more information, try www.chicagotribune.com and look up stuff by columnist John Kass. The LAPD are amateurs!! Go Bears!
