Dwarf sues to overturn Florida anti-"Dwarf Tossing" law. Frankly, I'm glad to see that we're keeping people from being exploited for their physical differences and protecting them from the lure of being paid for dangerous and demeaning activities. In other news, I can't wait for the Winter Olympics.

Umm...
Yes, tossing dwarves around is rather disgraceful, and depending on the dwarf's physical characteristics can be dangerous, causing paralysis or even death. I don't think I'll be paying to attend any dwarf-tossing events.
But the dwarves consent to being tossed, and assuming they know the risks involved, IMO it's their choice and theirs alone whether they want to be tossed or not. Not respecting their wishes is worse than allowing them to demean themselves.

Do I really need a <sarcasm/> tag? Sorry, I figured my mention of the Olympics, a far more exploitive and damaging cultural institution than Dwarf Tossing will ever be, made that clear.

Oh well. At least Mark Dalrymple got it (although I wish he had an easy way to link to an archive entry...).
