When you get into looking at a lot of porn sites professionally (yeah, snicker if you like, but the sad thing when I say that is, ninety percent of the sites I DO go to purely for journalistic or research reasons - I can only wish they WERE more arousing), you start learning a really peculiar language, one where "mature" means twenty-five, "granny" means forty, "fat" means normal, "teen" means "can look eighteen," and each particular flavor or kink has its particular slang or abbreviations. Could there ever be any doubt that this is still an underground culture? Is "cameltoe" just convenient shorthand, simple to list on links pages, or is it the result of people embarrassed to say "we like pictures of the shape tight clothing makes over a woman's crotch?"
Maybe it's both. Shorthand AND embarrassment.

I don't know where/how it started, but I remember hearing the term as early as middle school. Although back then camel toes were generally something we laughed at - women who wore their pants too tight. This is the first time I've heard of it as a fetish, although I think it's great - and especially because they've included men.

I believe that tongue is planted firmly in cheek by all involved in that site.

Well, term has been around a good long while (I remeber hearing it in high school(circa 80-84) and like most slang is based on some vulgar(common) observation. Funny thing is I found this link while searching for information in another underground community, Perl which has adopted the mascot of the camel. I doubt it's embarrassment so much as it's shorter to say "cameltoe" vs "we like pictures of tight clothing around a womans crotch".

You want tongue planted firmly in... well... yeah, cheeks, and all sorts of other places, Hoot Island rocks!

Hoot Island does rock - and not for the least reasons of which they have an interview with Minor Deity, Phil Foglio (hopefully, I'm gonna be able to finally meet him this weekend at Norwescon!) about his XXXenophile studio. (Phil also did the cover artwork on the Hoot Island homepage.)
The Foglios Rule!

Yep. Even outside the XXXenophile genre, I've signed up for the subscription to Girl Genius and eagerly await the next issue.

Girl Genius is great! My only complaint with Phil & Kaja is that they don't turn out stuff fast enough (months or years go by between books).
I was hoping to meet them this weekend at Norwescon, but it looks like I'm gonna have to miss it for yet another year (I've never yet made it to a Norwescon <pout>). I just finished our taxes and we owe almost $4000(!!!!) - I've never owed more than $800 in my life (and that was a year I collected unemployment, which didn't take out federal income tax) and we're lucky to have $200 in savings at the moment. So money's gonna be tight for awhile - which means no more new statues either :-(

Dan: your a putz for not mentioning Hoot Island earlier. That's very close to what I wanted for TheCucumber project (I always described it as a Sex Culture version of the Daily Show.
Shawn: A Nadesico FAN! OMG! thats gotta be the funniest series to ever air on TV.

Hoot Island has come up earlier, as have a few articles by Chris Bridges in Clean Sheets, but it was actually only doing some research for a few projects recently that I delved into Hoot Island deeply enough to find the good material. The design has always kept me from digging too much deeper.

Dan; I haven't rooted too deeply myself - mostly dug through the comic/art links. What other good stuff have you found?
Todd; Actually, I've never seen the show. I've seen the DVD in the store while shopping, but I always have such a hard time deciding what to buy because it's so hard to tell the good stuff from the bad. I just liked the statue, and the price was right :-) But if you're recommending the show, I'll put it on my list.

Among other things, the Hoot Island Eruptions audio tracks.
