What should I do with My life?

2003-01-02 18:16:02+01 by TC 2 comments

It's that time of year again(the new part),where we reflect on the past year and make goals for the next. In this time of reflection here is a good read about choices and goals (poached from slashdot)

I have a little trouble taking advice from Po Bronson and Fucast Company, for reasons summed up wonderfully in this /. comment:

In other words, a writer and a magazine who made themselves by proclaiming that the only worthwhile use of your life is starting a dot-com, going public and keeping your stock price elevated until the lockup period ends and you can bail out are now embracing "money won't make you happy".

The article does have some good questions, but I guess I'm lucky in that I figured out what I'm good at and what gives me joy pretty early. If I won a hundred million or so in the lottery I guess I'd stick to developing software 'til it was all gone. Then I'd have to go out and get a real job.

(Although, looking out the window I'm seeing yet more demolition, and driving one of those big tracked things with the monster jackhammer on the end of the arm seems more and more attractive...)

J. Peder Zane takes down Po Bronson.
