A few pics...

Last weekend Dr. Litchford and I went out on Lake Chickamauga for a lazy afternoon of sailing. The wind was real light. Not much interesting on the river. I took a number of pics of this house. Not particularly impressive by Northern California standards - but stands out like a sore thumb in the Tennessee Valley - especially nestled on quite a 'scar' on the lake.

Here's a shot of the bloom on my landlord's paddle cactus. He grew the cactus from seed... But he does have a Ph.D. in horticulture...

Big pics.. no thumbs? - I miss the way in the Pacific Northwest houses used to (maybe still are?) be built to merge into an environment, often the kewlest and biggest houses were nearly invisible set into the woods. Some of that happens in Chattanooga, but too often it's the big white blister on a pristine background of green. Lawns: why the heck must there be big flat lawns cut into a forested lot? Hopefully the terraces will become lush and green...

Ow. That house is the ultimate in "I have low self esteem". I hope that some green grows in on those structures in front of it, but they look like they're just rock retaining walls, so moss is the only bet there.

The entire structure is being 'enshrouded' in mountain stone. It really looks like a scar along the lake and I'm sure the result will be quite barrish. Doc also conjectured that the house will be extremely well-lit at night. Something that annoys him as he frequent takes his boat out on the lake at night to sleep.

Look like we'll be sailing again this weekend. I'll get more shots of the boat this time.

One casually wonders about an underground effort to assist in the "enshrouding"... one rock at a time.

I'm betting that's another of McKee family building a mansion. Old Chattanooga money generally avoids the lake and I think there's already one McKee with a big ol' spread on the lake, so it might be a sibling rivalry thing.

McKee or Mills... I'll check the tax maps in the morning...

That's the ortho showing property lines. The land was last sold in 1996 to David Sale for $365K.
