I call hoax: I don't remember which of my daily reads gave me a link to the story about the Pentagon funding PolicyAnalysisMarket.org, (one of a gazillion reprints of roughly the same story), but I call hogwash.

Here we go, in another article we get some quotes from experts, including this beauty:
"This is a low-budget operation," he said, noting that it's so far cost less than $1 million. "This sort of national media attention is far and away more than we can afford to pay for advertising."

Hmmmm... Phil just sent http://www.darpa.mil/iao/FutureMap.htm which might indicate that someone at DARPA was thinking about such a thing.

Funny you should mention that, Under the Banner of Heaven mentions several times where Joseph Smith predicted the death of some political opponent, and sure enough, the prophecy would be fulfilled, often by a believer.
