In Arthur C. Clarke's 2010, the Monolith ignites Jupiter into a small sun, in order to melt the ice on the moon Europa and thus accelerate the evolution of a sentient life form found in the oceans there. Now, according to Richard Hoagland, leading proponent of the Face on Mars claims, NASA may have actually done it! Watch the Skies!!

Oh, this is just fabulous. And as a special bonus, he also believes the Face on Mars is artificially constructed!
As it happens, the project scientist for Galileo is an old family friend, and my parents are having dinner with him this week. I've passed along this URL for their mutual enjoyment. If I hear anything back, I'll let y'all know.
