Stronger, weighs less.
You can basically make any steel part out of titanium and save half the weight without reducing strength. For backpackers, the extra cost is worth it.

And here I thought it was just for the 'Kewlness".. Laughing. Jacob, one of the guys we cave with, has a large rack custom made from titanium. Most are Stainless Steel (for strength) and weigh a pound or two. His titanium one is the envy of anyone that has carried a normal rack for a mile or two through a cave..
