Okay, at some point I'll figure out why the forms have a silly border on 'em, but I got sick of the old design and decided to throw something different up, even if it is half-baked. So here's a new look.

Whoa.
I thought I'd fat fingered the URL and ended up at some other-worldly Dan Lyke rip-off...
Looks good!

There's still something wonky about the center column in some versions of Mozilla (and I've tried for just "degrades gracefully" in IE), and I need to adjust the right column right margin, but at least I have something to fix and the impetus to fix it.

Whoa! Looks really bizarre on my browser. (Sorry, still using IE on this machine.) Hurts my eyes, in fact. I'm going away now, I'll be back some other time.

I'm losing the right edge of post titles (Mozilla 1.0.2 (5.0) on RH8.)
The header on the /archives/comments page looks a lot nicer (or less disturbing, to my eye) than the main page.

That problem with change is, good or bad, it's change. It'll take my mind a few days to not burp when I see the new look, thinking I was elsewhere. Using Mozilla on Linux it looks good. But on MS-IE.. There seems to be some funky's with the floating DIV tags.

Given the feedback here and elsewhere I've simplified it down to all look like the sub pages. Now that I have everything in CSS I can play with various options and have something to fix, but yeah, all of those incompatibilities with image positioning were playing hell with different browsers, and there are still some clipping issues.
Hopefully some of you will come back now?

And mostly I'm happy to get rid of those gradients on the old page that never rendered correctly under IE.

Looks good in Safari on OS X v10.3. The only suggestion I would make is to move the title/
comment link for each post to the upper left rather than the upper right.

Ah. That's better.

Looks completely horrid in Safari.Columns jam up against each other. Text flows strangely. Yuck and a
half. Lemme know if you want a screen shot to show how bad it is.

Looks like I'm late to the party. Generally, it looks good here (work - IE6, WinXP), but the first post in the center column seems to be suffering from random redraw and/or clipping issues. Sometimes it's missing entirely, sometimes it's all there - and if I scroll away and back, the clipped demarcation changes location (or disappears entirely).

Oh, I see, the post content is like *flowing* around the post title on the right of the center column, is that what's going on? My eyes haven't figured out yet how to parse what they're seeing. (They're old, y'know?)

Whoa! Real-time changes! I think the Participants list just jumped the divide and zoomed over to the right bottom from the left top, while I was refreshing the page. That was quite the surprise. :-) Never a dull moment around here, I tell ya....

Okay, how's that? Post headers no longer have text flowing under them, we're down to two columns for those of you who browse narrow, margins should be large enough that we shouldn't have clipping issues, and... woohoo! I can move the titles left or right by changing the CSS!
I'm still not happy with the spacing of the title information, but is it good enough that it's not going to drive anyone off for now?

I'm a left to right reader. I could see content on the left, titles in the middle (but in a smaller "frame" than they currently are) and update/user info on the left. I'm IE/WinMe here, but I've taken to reading the short version at work from a PDA with Blazer or Mobile IE 2003.
Change is good, Dan. Keep us on our toes.... write something that'll load a random set of CSS files..... and change each time we re-load, based on our cookie field that used to change the foreground/background and change the name to "A Moveable Feast." <giggle>

Having post titles show on the left instead of above a post is a bit disconcerting. I've come to expect that area--the left column--to be reserved for navigation (and the right column to be used for sidebar stuff).
