I'm at the office today, waiting for a download, and just ran across a tool that I'm definitely going to have to try out, because it looks like parts of what I was envisioning for the snippet manager: Clever Cactus.

I thought for sure I had posted here about Clever Cactus - at least once if not a couple of times, but I can't find any entries now. I've been watching this product off and on since it was something entirely different. (He started making something that was, IMO, a lot more like snippet manager - an e-mail client/chat client/contact manager/etc. that shared information with trusted entities/people. I don't remember what it was called - something simple and vague, like "One" or something - but it suddenly vanished, with Clever Cactus appearing in it's place and nary a whisper was ever heard again of the original.)
The registration requirement to even see it held me at arms length for a long time, but I finally bit the bullet and downloaded the client a few months back. End result: I was pretty non-plussed. I had one friend who agreed to try it out with me, but we never could seem to get connected. He'd get the invites from me, but said I always showed as offline. I never did see him online. There were a variety of other issues in the interface that put me off as well. I don't remember the details, but in general I was dissatisfied with the lack of options/settings/etc.

After looking over the site again, it looks like Clever Cactus Pro is a continuation of the original product I wrote about below.

Just learned from Erik Thauvin that Diego is having to throw in the towel on Clever Cactus due to lack of funding. Erik's trying to shuffle things in an effort to buy the codebase, technology and/or Diego, but is also putting out the call/plea to others in an effort to keep Diego's work afloat.
Diego's official last day for working on Clever Cactus was Monday (11/29).

I installed Clever Cactus Pro, haven't had a chance to play much with it yet, but it's in the "wow, this is getting close to usable" stage. Even despite my aversion to things Java. A damned shame he's at the "having to quit" stage, because there are some good ideas underlying it that it'd be great to see him able to take to fruition.
