I got a postcard from Wired magazine, announcing their high-tech expo Nextfest is coming the Chicago this summer. It offered me 3 ways of attending: 1) Pay 10 bucks for a ticket and get a free year of Wired; 2) Skip the subscription and pay only 8 bucks; or 3) Join the Reader Host Committee and get a free ticket in exchange for distributing emails to 10 friends. Its a hard decision; Pay 10 bucks of my hard-earned bread to see models of flying cars and home nuclear reacters from China, or rat out my friends and loved ones to the marketing department of Conde' Nast Publications. I have decided to create a 4th alternative: I am saving up the addresses of the next 10 spammers who try to entice me with offers for herbal Viagra, cheap home loans or can't-miss stock tips. I look forward to meeting them at the expo.

I think perhaps we should try to do a little messing with their data by getting people to sign up for it with a shared email address that can be the person that everyone knows...

If you're going to target spammers, please find an email on the pages they advertise rather than the apparent source address. I constantly get complaints and anti-virus messages because some spammers are spoofing my email as the source address.
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your
comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel
they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
