Who says crystals can't bring harmony to the world? (From a comment to an entry on JWZ's blog)

Evidently it also affects cell phones as well. Ever since I got my TV-b-Gone, I've been dreaming of a Cell-Phone-be-Gone. Listening to people talk on the phone is annoying. Most people don't have the courtesy to take their calls someplace private. Many restaurants are banning the use of cell phones (not to mention theaters!). But generally, no one follows decent ettiquette when using them. I'm going to have to try this and see if it gets people to hang up and drive!
Need to rig up a little box to power it. I wonder if I can cloak it inside a cell-phone! Maybe even use an expired cell-phone battery to power it!

While TV-b-Gone looks real and makes sense, and we need to get tom kunesh one. The simple "Crystal Jammer" is bad joke.
A real jammer circuit:
using a simple LC (Inductor/Capacitor) oscillator. providiing feedback to the gate of the NPN power transistor.

- Crystals can oscillate when power is applied, typically with a reactive load (inductive or capacitive) and simply provide a LOW power trigger to a higher power output transistor or other amplifier device.. even a 12ax7 or 6a6 tube.
