Tomato Artichoke Soup revisited

For whatever reason, I can't comment on meuon's original post, so I'm going to have to do a new one. After some thought over a bowl of tomato artichoke soup at Rembrandt's, Asha and I came to the realization that the recipe must be much, much simpler. This is what I tried tonight:
14 oz can of quartered artichoke hearts
15 oz can of stewed tomatoes
16 oz tub of sour cream
Put in pot and heat.
This makes sense because I'm sure the wait staff at Rembrandt's just replenishes the pot throughout the day by adding entire containers of the ingredients. It always stays the right ratio. I didn't drain my artichoke hearts so it came out just a little thin.

Just to tie the archives together, the original post is at http://www.flutterby.com/archives/comments/8557.html
You've got to be logged in (did this to prevent drive-by postings), so I'll bet if you go back to that page now you'll be able to post an up date.

Hmm.. Sour cream? How was it with that?

Dan: I'll have to look into it, but I even logged out and back in, and was not able to comment on the old page. Of course, I was using my wife's computer running Win98.
meuon: Sour cream is the key. It's all the fat in the dish. The soup literally has three ingredients. Asha thought there was too much sour cream. I didn't drain the artichokes before dumping the can in the pan, so 8 ozs of sour cream was too thin. I bet if you drain the artichokes and use 1/2 pint of sour cream (8 oz), it'll be just right. I'm going to Rembrandt's this afternoon, so I'll be able to get a good comparison.

Just had Rembrandt's soup again. Some things to note: there were some (very little) pieces of diced onion in it and there was some oil but very, very little of it. Other than that, my recipe is right-on with probably 1/2 the sour cream. I bet they use canned stewed tomatoes that include some onions and maybe add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the quantity above.

Kudos, we'll have to try it with sour cream.
