According to the Guardian, living Trivial Pursuits answer Boy George has been sentenced in New York to community service for "wasting police time." (?!) The singer complains that having to rake leaves in Central Park is a waste, and presenting a charity concert would be a better use of his talents. Actually, the court's sentence is pretty charitable, since listening to such a concert would surely be punishment for the hapless audience.

Raking leaves in Central Park: creative sentencing! It's not as if it's *AUTUMN* anyway, gee, what's he complaining about? (He has to be done by August or face jail time.)
On the subject of Boy George concerts, I'll agree that it would be horrid, but I'll also admit that in late 1983, I'd hit a rough time in my life. My lover of several years informed me he'd prefer to live alone, I started a new job in a new area where I knew no one, and my faithful canine was starting to age. "Karma Chameleon" had just hit the airwaves, and although it was dreadful in a bouncy way, it somehow worked magic for me. It got me tapping my toe and singing some silly meaningless peppy lyric in my head, and I found I was listening to music again. It was *the* thing that I credit for pulling me out of a depression I'd started sinking into, and I hold the song, and the bizarre artist who fronted it, in a special regard for that reason.
But no, I won't go hear any Boy George concerts, not even for free.

Funny how music really helps sometime. And you'll laugh, but if I was walking by a park and Boy George was doing a free concert, if the crowd was having a good time, I'd be there enjoying with them. Silly non-serious bubble gum trash pop has it's place. Oh, and I miss Cindy Lauper for the same reason.
But I think the judge's point of doing the same thing as 'anyone else' is valid.
He should be able to humiliate himself for 5 days and rake leaves....
If he really wants to do the concert, then that's his choice AFTER he's done his 5 days.
