Aahh, good old James Dobson, taking Holocaust survivors to task for teaching their children about that genocide, dismissing such teaching as "...tales of horrific violence that lacked the redemptive power of Christ’s atonement..." (via Elf).

Dobson is way off base on many things and I believe him to be a danger to civil liberties but one really has to have a very strange perspective to read "chide Jewish parents who tell their children about the Holocaust, because such stories contain "horrific violence that lacks the redemptive power of Christ's atonement" into the article cited as the source. I read it as more of an explanation as to why Judge Stephen Reinhardt is a liberal.

I read it as Dobson (or the particular writer of the article, to be fair, Dobson is just the editor) claiming that had the parents not told their child of their experiences, Reinhardt might have grown up to be a god fearing Christian like Dobson.
Frankly, yes, I agree with Dobson that a diverse upbringing and wide ranging life experiences do tend to make one grow up to be the opposite of Dobson and his ilk. I see Dobson as passing a negative judgement on that.

Let me rephrase that: He offers up Judge Stephen Reinhardt's apparent liberal bent as a character flaw. He gives as a reason for that character flaw:
Divorced parents, Hollywood friendships and tales of horrific
violence that lacked the redemptive power of Christ’s atonement
That sure sounds to me like Dobson is taking Reinhardt's mother and stepfather to task for teaching their child about the Holocaust.
