Women masturbating! Okay, now that I have your attention... Say you mention reading materials to someone. Say that someone says "I've got a female friend who's uptight about masturbation, I've gotten her a vibrator and lube, but she's not really able to let go". Say the subjects are early college sorts of age.
Any suggestion for up-to-date reading materials? I'm sure there'll be future discussions, and obviously I'm at least once removed from the specifics (no, my life doesn't have nearly as much discussion of masturbation with 19 year old women as you might surmise), but I'd be a little afraid Betty Dodson's Sex For One is a bit dated, and I'm not sure what other directions to recommend.

It all totally depends on what she likes and she might not know. Good Vibrations has a selection of books - "Sweet Life: Erotic Fantasies for Couples" is a fairly vanilla hetero-based starting point. But if she likes girls...or if she's super sub (or dom)...well, she'll have to branch out from there.
I'd recommend a selection and let her take it from there. ;-)
Another thought...she has a vibrator, but some gals are more into dildos (vibrating or not) than, say, a bullet-type vibe. So a bit more toy variety might help too.

Judging from my experiences dating girls who couldn't "let go" they just weren't comfortable with either themselves or the thought of masturbation. What really seemed to help with some of the girls I knew was simply getting them to read some alternate views out there on the web like Violet Blue, Girl with a One Track Mind, etc. that show that girls CAN be sexual and its ok for that.
