I recall several associates from the USSR were simply aghast at the quality of National Geographic maps of their own country. Their own official maps were cruder than you might imagine, owing to "national security" interests. They were also astounded at the quality and availability of USGS maps. I wonder if we face a future of crayon quality cartography as "national security" governs what we are allowed to know about our territory. I hope this doesn't put me on TSA's no fly list.
