Violet Blue says that Google is broken. The sooner we recognize this, the faster there'll be room for a competitor in the market. The problem I see is that none of the competitors "get it". Clusty is too busy and slow, the big companies are laughably wrong...

Well, i just ried to google Tiny Nibbles and got Violet's site at the top on the first try, although I notice there were no ads. Did google fix it, or just let her site through?
It's also interesting that Google gets by with so little complaint about its dominant position, while Bill Gates can't buy a stick of gum without having Slashdot herniate itself with cries of monopoly.

Yeah, I'm finding assorted things that I'd expect, based on her rant, to have been relegated to the last few pages right up there on the first few.
And in general it is Google's perogative to do with rankings what they wish.
As to why Microsoft catches hell when Google doesn't? Partly it's because Google doesn't have 15 years of blatantly ripping off independent developers (anyone remember that disc compression technology that they just outright stole?), of convincing us developers that this is the stable API only to have it torn out from under us and deprecated a few months later, of selling things to our parents and siblings and then laying the support back at our feet, of... well... that rant could go on and on.
