AKA Accelerator
In the really hairy days, we used to let swimmers swim this rapid, or
use it as a place to get out the most obnoxious customers. Now guides
usually just spin down this rapid. Picking either side, catch the boat
on the eddy and call a turn (ie: river left eddies need a left turn).
The boat will, with a little practice, spin down the eddy line.
On the river
left side, if you hit the rock in the first eddy fairly straight on you'll
get a good hard spin. If the boat is sideways you'll probably take the
front right person out. Not too bad if they're hardy, 'cause it's moderately
deep there, but I recommend the Taco Hole in Cat's Pyjamas for that.

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing
to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee
area, contact the folks at OAR
, my
favorite outfitters.
