Rock on left side of river, obvious chute on left side of rock, large expanse that looks like it might be doable on right. Stay left.

Also, I don't know how, but there have been several major pins on this rock over the years, from some really stuck rafts to a guy who pinned himself under his canoe with a thwart stuck through his thigh and they had to cut the boat apart to get him out.

Rafters with a sense of humor like to tag the front end of the raft on this rock and spin the boat, but the wrong angle can flip a stiff raft here, and you need to make sure you can do the recovery before Flipper.

There's also one of the best places on the river to learn how to catch air in a raft on that standing wave just below this. Flips straight up, so you won't be missing the boat (so to speak...)

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee area, contact the folks at OAR , my favorite outfitters.
