[lsuck.jpg] Aka: Heroes Left, Chickens Right (It is said that there is a chicken route to the right. I haven't done it).

Make your entrance left, then either pick your way down the middle (if the water is high or you're willing to trade scratches for safety) or move left.

If you go left, the gate rocks are 5 or 6 rocks in a straight line. Get through the big gap going right, straighten out and punch the holes, preferably on the left side moving left (that'll drop you into the eddy if something goes wrong).

Playing: I used to play this hole hard, doing 360s and such, until one very hung over Sunday morning it beat the living daylights out of me. It is possible if you're good. The first hole, above the big hole, is great surfing across, both if you run the ledge from left to right from the top and if you enter it from both sides.

Cheats: At high water, consider down the center of the big rock island or to the left of the island, although the hole itself does wash out above about 3,000. At normal water levels in a hard boat you can go far right (Never done it) or carry.

Cool run that we did in an open canoe and is fun in a kayak, is start river left above the island, drop the left side of the chute going hard right, the top hole will catch you at the bottom of the drop and spit you across river right, avoiding the big hole.

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee area, contact the folks at OAR , my favorite outfitters.
